Workshop

Join SJVW for its first workshop, “The Ins and Outs of Self-publishing.” Led by experienced self-published authors and editors, this full-day workshop will take participants through the many facets of getting their books into print. Workshop topics include:

  • traditional publishing vs. self-publishing

  • developmental editing vs. copyediting 

  • interior and cover design

  • platforms for publishing, with a focus on a “how to” with kdp (Amazon)​

among others.

Date: Saturday, June 15, 2024. 

Time: Check-in at 8:30 a.m. Workshop starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.

Location: The Valley Brew (157 West Adams, Stockton)

 

Deadline for registration: June 1, 2024. 

 

Fees

  • SJVW and CWC members: $30

  • Non-member: $50 

 

Included with registration fee are refreshments, workshop materials, lunch, and a raffle for various prizes. Following are the lunch selections. Please review. In the submission form, you will be asked to select one of the options.

  • Grilled Double Cheese Sandwich, Hot Tomato Soup, and Chips

  • Turkey and Swiss Cheese on Soft Deli Roll with Potato Salad and Chips

  • Chicken Caeser Salad with Shaved Parmesan and Garlic Triangle Croutes

Lunch includes a build your own dessert bar: Sugar Dusted Lemon Bars with Fresh Fruit and Fruit Sauce Selections.

Because of commitments required by the venue, no changes or refunds past June 1, 2024.

Workshop Leaders

Pam Van Allen. Pam is the author of seven self-published books and is the owner of Whizzits Publishing. As an editor, she has helped other authors self-publish. Her expertise includes copyediting and line editing, formatting, assisting with platform management, and other areas of getting a book to print. 

Bill VanPatten. Bill is an award-winning author who has self-published five novels and three collections of short stories. He has also self-published a series of novellas and short stories in Spanish for heritage and second language learners. He is currently working on his sixth novel, a novella, and another collection of short stories. You can learn more about him at www.billvanpatten.net.

John Britto. John is a published author who is currently self-publishing his first novel. He will serve as workshop host and coordinator.
